PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

“We live in a wonderful world that is full of

beauty, charm, and adventure.

There is no end to the adventures we can have

if only we seek them with our eyes open.”

~ Jawaharlal Nehre ~

Tenafly High School students and staff enjoy our school campus that is surrounded by “beauty, charm, and adventure.”  As I walk around our school, it is exciting to see and experience the special and unique opportunities available to our students.

Students are continually interacting and engaged whether they are studying/collaborating in our spacious Library Media Center, reading and studying in the courtyard or Dr. Pfeiffer’s memorial “Bunny Park,” video conferencing in the presentation theatre, editing their media projects using state-of-the-art equipment in the studio, broadcasting school news from our closed-circuit television studio that provides a link between the school and community, studying in the CSI Center, working with their counselor in the Career and Counseling Center, playing and working with pre-school children in the Child Development program, participating in debate competitions, discussing politics, communicating with students globally as they participate in Virtual High School on-line courses, playing the Stock Market game, creating new cooking recipes or a “wood and metal” project, leading activities with their classmates as Peer Leaders, or rehearsing for a musical which could be mistaken for a Broadway play, participating in trust exercises in Project Adventure, designing and building a set for the auditorium stage, finding solutions to math problems using their graphing calculators, reading an award-winning creative essay, participating in an interactive physics program, speaking a new language in their world language class or mastering the English language in their ELL, creating a project using computer graphics or robotics.

THS students are also engaged outside the school and beyond the classroom in a myriad of ways. It is a great and fun experience to share in the excitement of watching our students participate in sports and athletics.  There is tremendous pride in our students who provide community service as emergency medical technicians and at local hospitals, schools, camps, and nursing homes.  It is rewarding to see the smiles of inner-city children as they interact with students in our service clubs. There are numerous opportunities in “structured learning experiences” and partnerships developed among our school, universities, and other organizations.  In addition, our students make effective use time management via our “Independent Decision Time,” in a productive and responsible fashion.

By now one realizes that “there is no end to the adventures” at Tenafly High School.  Although educators have recently received some negative attention nationwide, we, at THS, remain focused on ways in which our school can continue to accomplish its mission to provide an education that encourages each student to function at his/her highest level. Its vision of an educational community that fosters learning as a rewarding and lifelong process is shared with a community-wide commitment to excellence and achievement that is renewed at the start of every school day.

I would like to thank the members of the Board of Education, parents, and community members in supporting our efforts to provide the best education for our students.
